Writing Tips

Writing That First Novel

The journey always seems long before you ever step foot out there on the road to writing.  The only way to quell those fears is to just jump right in and do it.  It doesn't have to be much.  A sentence here, a paragraph there, and then before you know it, you've written a whole short story.  Then if you keep at it, you will find that novel will not be far behind.  Just write.  But enjoy the process of writing so that it does not become a chore.  Revel in it.  Get inside your characters' heads and live their lives on the printed page.  Believe you can do it, and it will be done.

Spelling Tips

Spelling is an area that can give anyone difficulty.  I try to learn one new word daily and use that word in my writing and daily interactions so that I can build up my vocabulary list.  I have listed 10 words below with brief definitions noted.

quotidian — commonplace, recurring daily                                 gustatory — relating to the sense of taste

enervate — to weaken                                                               preciosity — extreme meticulousness

comestible — edible                                                                  apposite — appropriate

soporific — drowsy                                                                   renascent — showing renewed growth or vigor

rigmarole — nonsense                                                                facetious — humorous or jesting
